Laser hair removal eliminates unwanted hair, reducing the need for shaving and waxing. This advanced technology transcends older, painful hair removal treatments to deliver long-lasting results. It is possible to treat larger areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs and face.
ICON is considered the next generation of laser-based treatments. It uses advanced technology to deliver safe, effective and bespoke non-surgical treatments and is fully equipped to offer a full portfolio of solutions.
Laser hair removal uses a concentrated beam of light to remove unwanted hair. The laser emits a light, which passes through the skin, and is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the hair follicles and inhibits future hair growth.
The laser can only eliminate hair that is currently in the growth phase of cycle. Follicles do not all grow at the same time so multiple treatments are required to deliver optimal results. Treatment results will vary from patient to patient depending on skin and hair colour.
Book your TreatmentLaser hair removal is a three-step process. The area is shaved prior to treatment (approx. 0-1 days ahead of time, at home) cleansed, and then treated with the laser.
The number of treatments you require for optimal long-term benefits depends on the area you wish to have treated, your skin type and your hair’s growth cycle. We treat until the hair is significantly reduced. We typically recommend 6 to 8 treatments at 4-6-week intervals for a significant reduction in hair growth. However, your hair grows in cycles and many factors influence its growth. Age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication and metabolism all play a part in your hair’s location, thickness and resilience.
Laser hair removal is a great option for all genders and most skin tones. However, white, blonde and red hair does not respond well to treatment.
Nd:YAG lasers use a longer 1064nm wavelength, which is specifically suited to darker skin tones. Unlike shorted wavelength lasers, like the 755nm Alexandrite, the Nd:YAG laser goes deeper, bypassing the pigmentation in the skin, and precisely targets only the melanin in the root hair, destroying it by heating up its blood supply and killing it.
The Nd:YAG laser is specifically designed to distinguish the subtle changes in skin tone, which means it can remove hair no matter what type of skin you might have. This means a safe, effective reduction in hair from top to toe.
You will leave the treatment immediately hair free and the period before the hair comes through between treatments will depend on the density of hair growth in that area. Attending the clinic for regular treatments will slow down the rate of hair growth and the treatment will be more effective. It may take between six to eight sessions before you achieve your desired reduction in growth.
Yes. We use one of the latest medical hair removal laser systems, which has a cooled delivery system that reduces the heat on the skin surface which protects the outer skin from the laser minimising any potential side effects.
Laser hair removal feels like an elastic band being snapped against the skin. A cooling system is applied at the same time as the laser to reduce discomfort during the treatment.
There is no downtime following treatment, and you can return to normal activities immediately. You must use sunscreen if you are to be exposed to the sun and avoid sunbathing, sun exposure and tanning prior to any further treatments.
