Why Aqualyx

Many men and women have issues with fat in stubborn areas that just won’t shift. Even after losing weight and exercising frequently, they find that the excess fat simply won’t budge.

Some people find that undergoing liposuction is too extreme an option to address this issue. This is where Aqualyx fat dissolving treatment comes into play. The area being treated is injected with Aqualyx. Aqualyx binds to fatty tissue, breaking it down. The body simply flushes out the broken-down fat after treatment.

Aqualyx fat dissolving injections enable fat on the face and body to be permanently removed, without the need for surgery.

For Cosmetic Concerns

  • Dissolve stubborn pockets of fat under the chin, stomach, buttocks, bra rolls, inner and outer thighs.

What Is Aqualyx?

Aqualyx is a safe, effective and biodegradable fat dissolving injection treatment that permanently dissolves fat cells in the treated area. Aqualyx can be used to treat small, exercise-resistant, pockets of fat around the chin, chest, abdomen and thighs. It is beneficial for body contouring and skin tightening, although it is not the recommended treatment for weight loss.

How does it work

Aqualyx treatment works by liquidating fat cells and destroying them permanently. It contains a product called deoxycholic acid which is found naturally occurring in the body. Deoxycholic acid is the main component in bile, a substance that is secreted in the human gut when we eat a fatty meal to help us digest fat. The deoxycholic acid in Aqualyx breaks down fat when it is injected into fatty areas. The broken-down cells are then eliminated naturally through the lymphatic system.

Your Questions Answered

What happens during the treatment?

The Aqualyx solution is mixed with a local anaesthetic and injected into the fat through a needle or cannula, depending on the area. Up to ten small doses may be put into the fatty area under the chin. For large body parts, a large cannula will be placed in the area to disperse the treatment.

The procedure takes about 30 minutes and is relatively painless, though some redness, itching and swelling can occur post treatment and last for 1-3 days afterwards. You can return to normal activities straight away, although the area may feel tender for up to 2 weeks. We advise no strenuous exercises for seven days to allow the treatment to settle in.

When do I see the final results of treatment?

Swelling usually occurs directly after the procedure and can persist for up to a week. Then the swelling will begin to reduce and you see the results. The end results are usually visible around 2 months post treatment.

Am I a suitable candidate for treatment?

Aqualyx is best suited to patients who maintain a healthy lifestyle and are close to their ideal body weight, but who have isolated stubborn areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.

This isn’t a weight-loss treatment. The area to be treated needs to have a good blood supply to it, so it is not suitable for those with a large overhang of loose tissue. We generally recommend treatments areas to be roughly the size of the hand palm.

Aqualyx is unsuitable for those that are overweight (BMI 32+), pregnant or breastfeeding, have lipodystrophy, diabetes or liver/kidney disease.

What is the down time?

You may experience some redness, swelling and bruising at the injection site. The swelling usually subsides after around three to five days.

What areas and problems can be treated?

Aqualyx is used to reduce localised, stubborn fat deposits in areas such as the chin, stomach, outer and inner thighs, hips, knees etc.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on the area being treated, and can vary from 1-2, up to 8 treatments in total. Treatments can be repeated every 4 weeks until desired results are achieved.

How long do results last?

The results of an Aqualyx fat dissolving injections treatment are permanent as long as you maintain a constant weight measurement i.e. you eat healthily, exercise regularly, and do not gain weight.

What is the difference between Aqualyx and Kybella?

Both Aqualyx and Kybella are designed to dissolve fat that is difficult to burn through exercise and dieting. They work using the same mechanism, but Kybella UK has just been approved for use in the UK and is considerably more expensive than Aqualyx (over double the price, with results comparable).
